President's Message
Hello everyone out there in cyberspace. We really do seem to be living in a digital universe age. Although technology for the most part is a good thing, sometimes I think about the good old days of the 1960's and 70's. And you could probably throw the 1980's in that mix as well. A time before cell phones, computers and driverless cars. Don't get me wrong I do love life but it seemed less complicated back in the day.
It's been a long time since we have had a Dragland family reunion but as you all know this July the family will be gathering in the great city of Calgary Alberta. It's going to be a lot of fun and will be nice to have everyone together in one place. My hope is we can get close to 100 people out for this event. Who knows when the next reunion will be so let's all enjoy this moment in time together.
This will be my last message as President of the DFA. A new President will be elected in Calgary this coming July. It has been my pleasure and honor to represent you all the past 12 years, which due to different circumstances turned out to be a couple extra terms as President.
I wish the best of success to the next Dragland family association President, whomever he or she may be.

Update re: Family Reunion - July 18, 2026!
(July 18th is Rudy Dragland's birthday.)
Hello Everybody!
The family Reunion is confirmed for July 18th at The Pioneers Building in Calgary.
We have relatives coming all the way from New York, San Francisco, Toronto, Victoria and other locals throughout Canada and the USA.
We are already up to 71 attendees and counting!
Important Reminders:
1. Genealogy - Please let us know a bit of history of who you are.
(Sad to say, but we really can’t remember everyone!)
2. Full names – When registering, please include full names
(first and last) as well as relationships of attendees
and contact info. Plus: who is paying for who?
3. Hotel - Please let us know where you are you staying.
(Best Western, or other?) and how long you will be staying.
4. Share - Please bring photos, videos, or archives for display.
And if possible, bring games for kids.
NB: Please promote the DFA and the Reunion,
to get more participation and enrollment!
More Details:
• We will Start at 3:00 PM with Light Snacks & Beverages, Games / Activities TBD.
• Dinner is at 6:00 PM – Cash Bar (credit/debit cards only) guests can bring their own bottled wine for dinner. Please let us know if there are any Food Allergies or Dietary Restrictions that we should be aware of.
• Open Mic for Introduction and stories until 9:00 PM.
We are trying our best to keep the cost down as we understand travel and hotels are expensive.
Without knowing the final numbers of family members attending, we have decided to set the price for the Reunion at $140.00 per person in order to confirm the Venue and Catering with a deposit.
Children under 3 free - Children under 9 @1/2 half price.
(Our goal is just to cover our costs - not to make a profit.)
The total cost will probably exceed this amount to cover Venue rent, Caterers’ rentals and Food.
The Dragland Family Association has generously offered to cover some of the cost overruns! If others would like to contribute a bit more as well, it would be much appreciated.
For payment you can send a cheque to "Dragland Family Association" at 1206 - 1 Lomond Drive, Toronto, ON M8X 2Z3; but the easiest way to pay is via email transfer to admin@dragland.org. The funds will be automatically deposited to our Dragland account at TD Canada Trust.
We have also secured a Group Hotel rate at the Best Western Plus Calgary Centre Inn for July 17, 18 & 19 for those who need it. $207.00/night down from $260.00, with a minimum booking of 10 rooms, under the name "Dragland Family Association". Make your reservation ASAP with a preauthorization and confirm your reservation at least 1 month prior to stay/date of Friday July 17th. We have already confirmed 10 rooms.

We will keep you updated with any relevant details over the next couple of months. We would love to hear back from you with any ideas on activities that we could include during the Reunion. Please let me know any feedback or thoughts.

Volunteer Web Designer Wanted
Hi: Our web designer (Vaughn) will have to retire one of these days...
So we are looking for a younger family member who is skilled at HTML, PHP, and perhaps SQL, who would be interested in taking over the responsibility of maintaining our family website and sending out email blasts. If you know of someone who fits the profile (or if it's you) please get in touch via email at vaughn@dragland.org. He would be grateful and happy to share techniques and resources until you are ready to take the reins. |
